Latest Works ~~ Most Special Dad

It’s football season and while watching games with my husband I often doodle on the iPad. I’m making some pictures to sell as prints during an exhibit this January. Here’s one that’s more personal, in honor of my Dad who passed away in August 2016. It includes comments from his last few weeks of life.

Last Few Days of Gallery B Exhibit ~~ Wednesday through Saturday Afternoons

The Bethesda Urban Partnership sent out their weekly newsletter and one of my paintings (‘C&O Canal Faceoff’) was showcased in the ad about Gallery B.  Cool.

Reminder, I’m scheduled to be at the gallery Wednesday from 3pm to 6pm.  Drop by if you want to dabble in iPad art ~~~~~ or buy one of our lovely paintings!   How to Visit.  The gallery is also open Wed through its last day, Saturday, 12pm to 6pm.  Thanks to the many who’ve visited — and purchased — our art.

‘STOP NOW’ Makes it to the March!

Friends drove down from Long Island to join the Women’s March.  The wife wasn’t feeling well and had to stay home, so I stayed to keep her company while my hubby and hers each grabbed a big copy of my ‘Stop Now’ poster and took the Metro down to the March.

It took them more than three hours to get to L’Enfant Plaza, a trip that usually takes about 40 minutes.  Getting into and out of the stations meant additional long waits.  Once at the site, they found the crowds incredibly well behaved, helpful, determined and upbeat.  Many people thanked Pat & Bill for coming and asked to take their picture.  Bill summed it up:  I’m casting my lot with the women.  They’re amazing!  You don’t want to mess around with women!

I was bummed out to miss it, but lapped up the television coverage, getting a totally different perspective.  Here are a few shots of my hubby’s day on the streets of DC.

Art for the Moment ~~ and Ongoing Display at Steptoe: STOP NOW

On a whim, I doodled on my iPad in response to an open call for poster art for the upcoming Women’s March on Washington.   One of its themes — “women’s rights are human rights” — reminded me of the good that women can do for everyone, when they act — and react — for the common good.  Here’s what I created.

STOP NOW.  Original iPad painting, 2017.

Though mine wasn’t among the five chosen from more than 5,000 entries, I’m satisfied with it nonetheless.

And I’m even prouder that my former law firm, Steptoe & Johnson LLP, is going to print the image six feet tall for display at the DC office where I practiced law for many years.  Wow.  Thanks go to partner Pantelis Michaelopoulos and his wife Cynthia Quarterman, also a Steptoe alum, who saw my art at last week’s champagne reception and proposed that the firm acquire ‘Stop Now’ for its collection.

New Exhibit of Selected iPad Art in Medical Offices

I am delighted that my neighbor, Dr. Charlotte Jensen, has invited me to exhibit some of my paintings in her offices, C2M Chiropractic, in North Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Jensen is displaying some of my iPad paintings, printed as giclees on high quality archival papers in archival inks.  In addition to a series of veggies and flowers recently showcased at Brookside Gardens, these landscapes are part of the new exhibit.

The prints are scheduled to appear in Dr. Jensen’s office gallery over the next year.

Calling Those Interested in iPad Art! Local Demos and Workshops!

Those of you in the Washington, DC area will have several opportunities to check out the iPad as a tool for making art during the next few months.

There will be manageable 2 1/2 hour workshops during which you can get a good feel for ‘what’s the big deal about iPad art’; ‘what if I don’t know anything about iPads’; or ‘what if I don’t know how to draw a straight line!’

And then, if you want to learn more, we offer a couple of day-long workshops during which you can explore some of the details of the intuitive ArtRage app for the iPad.

Here are some of the many uses you can make of ArtRage on the iPad (click image to enlarge):

My Local iPad Art Classes Reviewed in ArtRageUS Magazine!

Stepping back a bit more in time, I am happy to report that I’m now published (digitally, at least) in connection with my iPad art teaching activities. ArtRageUS, the online magazine for users of the ArtRage app, published an article about my efforts to bring iPad art to the Washington DC area in its Third Anniversary issue, March 2013.

Here’s the article, as well as a link to ArtRageUS, in case you’d like to peruse or subscribe.

Teaching and Being Taught in Lafayette

Last week I taught a one day iPad art workshop to a number of local artists in Lafayette LA and then attended a three-day workshop in watercolor journaling held by Don Getz and organized by my sister Ceci. Another sister, Mercedes, participated in much of the fun, including the iPad session. Since I was so close to home, Ceci and I swung over to Biloxi afterward to visit our dad and his wife and more brothers and sisters.

As for making art while out-of-town, I didn’t paint while teaching. And it was so cold and windy during the plein air workshop that I didn’t do anything of note then either. In fact, after a couple of watercolor/ink drawings, I resorted to my iPad to get something — anything — down before my hands went numb. Though everything is unfinished, I’ll show you the state of play (along with a few photos of what we were memorializing) so you can get a flavor for the beauty of Cajun country. Teaser: we painted the St. John Cathedral Oak, the third largest live oak in the country.

Newish iPad Fun

I’ve been distracted lately by a major house re-org, urged on by my selected ‘completion reward’: revamping my office area to include a nice, sunny area for painting. Yum. In the meantime, I’ve been teaching an iPad class and preparing for a trip to Lafayette, LA to teach a one-day iPad workshop and attend a four-day watercolor journaling workshop. More on that later.

I’ve done a few new iPad pieces over the last couple of months. Here they are:
