Summer 2022 ~~ and our Art Exhibit at Oasis Gallery ~~ has come to an end.

This past Spring, the Oasis Gallery invited the Seven Palettes (some of my art buddies and me) to mount a live exhibit at its Washington Metro location in Bethesda. Our exhibit ran from Monday, May 2d to mid-August 2022. Understandably, the show didn’t get much traffic, given Oasis’ use of zoom classes during the Covid hiatus, so I thought I’d post one last look at the paintings I contributed to the show. You can see the work of the other artists at the link above.

Remembering Our Recent Workshop on Mississippi Gulf Coast – Part 1

In writing my last post, I realized I hadn’t described our recent workshop in any detail.  It was great ~~ a delightful mix of ‘7 Palettes‘ painting buddies and Kathy Stowe, another Maryland-based friend; two of my sisters (Ceci & Susan); and three other Coast-based artists — Marylyn Gibson, Sherry Carlson and Curtis Jaunsen.  And of course our most excellent instructor, Marc Hanson.

Marc and Terry Miura are two of my most favorite landscape painters (not to take anything away from our outstanding MD-based artists).  Painting ‘rock stars’ in my book.  I’ve taken workshops with each of them and our 7Ps group sponsored a workshop with Terry not long ago.  It was fun to learn that they both trained at the same school in California!  Must be something in the water (or the OMG) out there!

Here are the beautiful demos that Marc did during our four day workshop.  I bought ‘On Canal by Old OS Harbor’ as a memento of the wonderful experience.

The ‘7 Palettes’ Kicked Off a Summer-long Exhibit Yesterday!

Yesterday, some friends and I, who collaborate on all things art as The 7 Palettes,  opened a new exhibit in Bethesda, Maryland.  Our art — some 40+ pieces — will be displayed for three months at Maplewood Park Place on Old Georgetown Road.  Come see our pretties, please — any day between now and August 24, from 10 to 4 daily.   And congratulations to Sara Becker, whose large abstract painting sold during the Opening Reception!!  Way to go, Sara!

Visit Me at Gallery B & Learn Some iPad Art Techniques!

We Seven Palettes are taking turns ‘sitting the gallery’ during our art exhibit this month at Gallery B.  I’m scheduled for more duty on Jan. 21, and 25, from 3pm to 6pm.

If you’d like to explore digital art a bit, grab your iPad and come sit with me for awhile.  I’ll show you some of my favorite techniques!  Here are some of my iPad images, illustrating how varied the results can be — from very detailed representation to impressionistic line drawings and quick notations at the ball park!

Fairy Lilies. Original iPad painting, 2013. 1:1 aspect ratio.

Here’s how to find & where to park for Gallery B.  If you’re thinking of coming by, let me know in advance so I can alert you to any last minute schedule changes.

We ‘Seven Palettes’ had a great opening reception yesterday!

The day was cold and icy, but that didn’t deter our lively guests from traveling to Gallery B in Bethesda to celebrate the opening of our month-long art exhibit.  Thanks to all of our friends and family who were able to attend.  And for those who couldn’t get there – we missed you!

Each of us made several nice sales of paintings, prints and greeting cards – and received kudos from those who weren’t in a position to buy.  Here’s a glimpse of the festivities.

Another New Painting for Gallery B

Here’s another new painting for the Gallery B show.  Also inspired by the C & O Canal — late afternoon with the sun raking low across the tree tops.

C & O Face-off. Oil on Linen. 8 x 10.

I did a similar scene in gouache a few years ago, when I was first dabbling in that medium.  I love the contrast between the trees in light and shadow and their reflections in the calm canal water.

C & O Autumn. Gouache.

New Exhibit Starting ~~ Gallery B in Downtown Bethesda ~~ January 2017

Some of my painting pals and I (aka ‘the 7 Palettes’) applied awhile back to exhibit our art at Gallery B in downtown Bethesda, MD.  We were honored to be selected for a month-long exhibit at this prestigious location during January 2017.  Gallery B is a project of the Bethesda Urban Partnership, a local non-profit organization charged by Montgomery County, MD with promoting Bethesda.  It gives special support to the arts in our area.

Under the theme of ‘Local Color’, we will showcase our art reflecting the lovely scenes and vistas of the Greater Washington area.  Here’s one of my recent paintings of the C & O Canal that will be displayed during this exhibit.

Reception for Kentlands Exhibit Survives the Deluge!

Downpours and tornadoes couldn’t wash out our opening reception for ‘Brushes with Nature’, the summer-long exhibit by the Seven Palettes at the lovely Kentlands Mansion in Gaithersburg, MD.  Our 50 pieces of art were beautifully hung by the staff of the Gaithersburg Cultural Arts Advisory Committee and at least 50 people braved the storms to attend the reception.  Here are a few scenes from the festivities.
